Richard joined KPMG in 1983 and became a partner in 1997. His early years included a 2 year secondment to HSBC in its restructuring division. He specialises in financial sector insolvencies and restructurings particularly schemes and CVAs. He has lectured on complex financial instruments and sat for many years on the statutory Banking Liaison Panel set up to advise HMTreasury on restructuring matters and has also advised the Bank of England. For several years he was chair of the Technical Committee of R3, the restructuring trade body and was KPMG Global Head of Restructuring. In 2017 he left KPMG and for 2 years served as CRO/director within the Steinhoff group. In 2020 he returned to KPMG in order to participate in the sale of the restructuring group of KPMG which resulted in the creation of Interpath.
